NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (January 15, 2016) ― Basic Construction Co., a utility, site and asphalt services firm headquartered in Newport News, Virginia, announced today it has sold its asphalt plant in New Kent County to the Allan Myers company, which has locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

The New Kent County asphalt plant has served customers in New Kent County, Charles City County, King and Queen County, Middlesex County, King William County, Essex County and the town of West Point since 2000. A steady decline in the asphalt paving market in these areas since 2005 was the primary factor for Basic selling the facility, according to C. Derek Patterson, president of Basic.

Patterson said he anticipates that the sale of the New Kent County asphalt plant “will give us the ability to provide better service for customers in our core markets served by the Newport News asphalt plant.” These markets for paving are James City County, Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, Gloucester County, Mathews County, Middlesex County, York County, Poquoson, Isle of Wight County, Smithfield, Surry County, Southampton County, Franklin, Suffolk, Portsmouth and Chesapeake.

Basic, which celebrated its 100th year in business in 2015, is a 100 percent employee-owned company that performs sanitary sewer and force main work, water main installation, storm sewer works, highway and road work, and asphalt paving and production.
