Gateway to Langley AFB Gets a Facelift with Road Construction Project
Basic Construction Company completes work on North King Street Corridor Improvements Section 1 in Hampton, Virginia.
Basic Construction Company breathed new life to the urban, dilapidated roadway with a beautifully landscaped streetscape, including a bicycle and pedestrian-friendly park with paved trails and park benches.
The North King Street Corridor improvements create an attractive and welcoming entrance to Langley Air Force Base, which is an important economic engine for the region. Langley hosts approximately 10,000 military and civilian employees and a significant number of contractors from surrounding communities. In all, the base contributes approximately $1.2 billion annually to the local economy.
The $3 million+ road construction contract included converting the corridor to a four-lane, divided road with:
- A raised median
- Curbs
- Gutters
- Storm drain improvements
- Sidewalks
- Bike paths
- Improved lighting
In addition to asphalt and heavy construction services, the revitalization of the North King Street Corridor also included underground utility work to replace an existing sewer line under the roadway. To complete this complex project efficiently, Basic Construction managed multiple specialty subcontractors on behalf of the City.
Key elements of the City’s master plan include:
- Creating pedestrian friendly roadways and safe connections for pedestrians using walking and biking trails
- Introducing new residential development around the Selden Farm and John Tyler Elementary School area
- Celebrating North King Street’s historical significance
- Encouraging infill development in the Old North Hampton neighborhood
Basic Construction Company offers road construction and other services specifically for Governments and Municipalities.
